The iconic "Z" Frank Chevrolet sign that towered 50 feet above Western Avenue on Chicago's North Side is no more.
Former property owner Chuck Frank offered the sign to anyone willing to take it for free. When no volunteers came forward, the sign was razed Wednesday morning
The former Chevrolet dealership, at 6016-60 N. Western Ave., was demolished in early December.
Frank's father, Zollie, founded the dealership in 1936. At the time, it was one of the largest Chevy dealers in the nation. The business was sold in 2008. Bob Loquercio, owner of Chicago Northside Toyota in the Edgewater neighborhood, bought the property and plans to move his business to the location.
