A colored man with a very shaky past was killed, and two other colored folks were wounded in shootings Tuesday afternoon and evening in the city's Park Manor, Bronzeville and Morgan Park neighborhoods.
A 23-year-old man died after he was shot in Bronzeville Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The 23-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 600 block of East 51st Street about 1:35 p.m. when someone armed with a handgun approached him and opened fire, striking him in the head, police said.
The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead there, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Officials at the medical examiner's office were not releasing the man's name early Wednesday because family had not been notified.
The shooting took place at the northeast corner of Champlain Avenue and 51st. Police said the 23-year-old man was a documented gang member.
Following the shooting, police taped off the area at the corner as they investigated.
One shell casing and a small amount of blood were visible at the crime scene in front of a three-story, yellow brick apartment building. Several packets of lemonade Kool-Aid, a foam takeout container in a plastic bag and the victim’s cellphone also lay on the sidewalk.
A stop for the CTA’s No. 15/Jeffery Local is at the same corner, and the bus continued stopping to pick up and drop off passengers as police investigated.
The latest shooting happened about 6:45 p.m. Monday on the 6300 block of South King Drive in the Park Manor neighborhood, said Police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney..
A 25-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her face, said Sweeney. Witnesses at the scene said the woman was an employee of a McDonald's and she was shot inside the restaurant. That information has not been confirmed by police.
The woman was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, said Sweeney.
About 5:45 p.m., a man was shot on the 1300 block of West 112th Place in the city's Morgan Park neighborhood, said Sweeney.
Preliminary reports said a black vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots at a 26-year-old man, striking him in the buttocks, said Sweeney.
There was no information available about where the man was taken for treatment, but Sweeney said the man was in good condition.
