Woman, 88, found dead in burning home near Barrington

The body of an 88-year-old woman was found inside her burning home near northwest suburban Barrington early Saturday, officials said.

At 1:15 a.m. emergency crews were called to the 21000 block of North 21st Street in an unincorporated area near Barrington for a structure fire, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The home was “fully engulfed in flames’’ and deputies found the body of the 88-year-old homeowner in an upstairs bedroom, according to the sheriff's office. 

An autopsy is slated for Monday, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo. Her name was not being made public. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division, the Barrington Countryside Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.
