Joliet Illinois Police: Sand Jockey Store Clerk & Negro Armed Robber dead after ‘shootout’

A clerk and gunman were killed in a shootout inside a store in southwest suburban Joliet Monday afternoon, police said.

About 3:12 p.m., a gunman entered a store at 1000 Gardner St. and was engaged in a “shootout” with the clerk soon after, said Joliet Police Deputy Chief Edgar Gregory, citing preliminary information.

The two males, whose ages were not known early Monday night, later died of their wounds, Gregory said.

Police were still on the scene investigating as of 7:15 p.m., Gregory added.

The Will County coroner’s office could not confirm the deaths Monday night.
